I went hiking at PEEC last Friday. They have a beautiful waterfall, but it requires an hour’s walk of about a mile and a half to reach. I tried to upload pictures Friday but without luck. Will try again.

Brian, Beverly and I went to look over camp today. It looks great. The best parts of the camp are: sleeping facilities, lunchroom, classroom space and basketball courts. We will, however, have to make some changes in the athletic program because of lack of fields.  Here are some pictures!

Yep, It’s time to get those pens ready for those lengthy application and health forms. It’s time to think about getting out the bug spray and shaking the dust out of the sleeping bags! Time for camp is fast approaching!

I hope to get staff applications and sponsor letters out before this weekend and camper applications out in a few weeks. However, if you want to get a head start, you can go to the camp web page and get the applications and first camper letter right now!

Start saving your money. Because of the recession, I’m not sure how we’ll do with our sponsor requests (begging) therefore, please make the maximum contribution you can, even if you’ll need a sponsor.

Spread the word! Start making plans! Pray for God’s help to make this a profitable spiritual project!  Get ready to get applications in right away!!!

Update on Mr. Berthold, who helps our camp so much

Below I’m pasting an update from Dudley Berthold’s son.  Please follow link in my post below to send him a card. Let him know you’re from NJ camp.

Subject: Dudley Berthold Update (12/1

We are very thankful today!  Dudley has been moved to rehab region of Baptist East, room 4407.  Each day he will have three to four hours of physical therapy.  To everyone’s excitement, he was able to move his left arm up to his head (as of Saturday night he was only able to move it several inches back and forth).  He has also begun making small leg movements.  We are so pleased!

Our family has been so encouraged by your outpouring of love and support.  Your thoughts, visits, calls, and most importantly your prayers have uplifted and strengthened us in this most difficult time.  We know the road ahead will be long and tedious, but we are assured the Lord will give us the fortitude to endure.

Camp supporter in hospital

As many of you know, our little camp depends on financial help from others, especially to “adopt” campers that can’t pay the rather hefty camp fee. A Christian who has helped promote our camp tirelessly and has obtained thousands of dollars every year to make our camp solvent, has just had a stroke. His name is Dudley Berthold. I’ve found a way you can send ecards to the hospital where he is in the Louisville, KY area. I think he would appreciate cards from campers. Just go to the link, state in the message that you are associated with NJ Camp and let him know you’re praying for him. The link is https://secure.bhsi.com/www.baptisteast/ecard.asp?bhcp=1   I made a plaque for Mr. Berthold after camp last year and will try to put a picture of it in with this message. Thanks to anyone who can write him!

Baptisms, Winter camp

We’re all thrilled that Amy (Roger’s sister) was baptized. Older campers will remember the Ramirez boys and their soccer skills from camp several years ago. Daniel Ramirez was one of the four people baptized in Piscataway two Sundays ago. Hope to see a bunch of people at the Ferencze’s bonfire.

Beto and Willie’s Dad is going home from the hospital later this afternoon, Lord willing. It looks like some of the worst symptoms may have been caused by strong side effects from medication he’s been taking. Thanks for prayers!

Get those applications for winter camp in!  If you need an application you can get one here.

Two Important Announcements!
Friday October 31st 2008, 7:08 pm
Posted by Gardner userphoto_the_author_photo() userphoto_the_author_thumbnail() - - Filed under:Camp Shout Out, Gardner Hall Shout Outs

#1 Winter Camp - I’ve printed up some applications for winter camp and have the application online as well on the old camp web page. Get the applications in soon since we only have room for 70. After that, I’m sorry! First come first serve! Remember, there are no sponsors for this camp. Cost is $80, so save up your money! We’ll have the camp again at Camp Lebanon, near Clinton, NJ.

#2 New Location For Our Summer Camp - Lord willing we will be at “Pocono Environmental Education Center” (PEEC) for camp this summer. It is about 10-15 miles past our old camp and is just across the Delaware River from New Jersey in Pennsylvania. You’ll love the lunchroom, “yurt” dormitories for guys and some other things about the new camp! Their web page is http://www.peec.org. Pay special attention to the page where there are pictures of the facilities we will be using. Check it out! It’s also fun to check the camp out on google earth. More information about why we had to change camps on our old camp web page.

We will have to raise prices for camp a  little, probably to $285 for one camper, $465 for two, etc. Help me find sponsors for those who can’t pay this!

I’m excited about our new place and thankful for the people who sacrifice so we can have camp and to God who motivates them to help us.

Careful with “back to school” priorities
Wednesday September 03rd 2008, 5:54 pm

Now that school is back in session, I want to remind campers of the important fact that school should never take priority over spiritual activities. Yes school is important, but it is essential that we maintain our spiritual focus and make the extra effort to attend services and Bible classes. I think you will all agree that homework can be of the devil (I’m only halfway joking) if it becomes an excuse to taper off our prayer, Bible study and efforts to encourage each other. So, keep praying, studying and maintaining contact with each other! I hope Tim, Roger, Emily, Brigham, Esther and others will stay after everybody to not let school slow down this good thing the Lord has going for us!
